Cuddly Soft Baby Booties
When sorting bins of my sons old clothes, I came across a pair of his baby booties from when he was just a little guy. He wore them home from the hospital. The memories just came rushing in. They were handmade with lots of love by my grandmother. They are still in perfect condition because I never put them on my son after that first day home. I wanted to keep them just perfect. I wish I would have gotten a little more use out of them. These baby booties hold such a special place in my heart and I hope to pass them down to my son’s children someday.
Everyone has the few special items that just seeing them brings so many fond memories. As mother’s, we seem to have a lot and want to hold on to all of them! It’s part of cherishing our children’s growth but missing the baby stage. Missing the cuddles, the sweet baby smell, the soft skin. Amazing that looking at one simple item all of those feelings come back like it was just yesterday that they were that little.
When I was little, my great grandmother used to handknit baby booties, slippers and blankets. I remember her sitting for hours just knitting away. I still have a pair that she made me. She passed away when I was 7 years old. Knitting is such a simple way to get the time to pass but also a great way to leave your mark on the world, at least the world of those you love.
I think I need to give my grandmother a call soon and tell her I’m coming over for a knitting lesson! I cannot let this wonderful tradition die. I want to be able to leave my grandchildren with something as special.
